ELT's Diamond Challenge
Last weekend saw the Trust's Executive Leadership team (and our wonderful award-nominated PA Hayley) take to the sea - or at least the canal - as part of the Duke of Edinburgh's Diamond challenge.
2016 marks the 60th anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh award and as part of their celebrations, they are asking people to take on a new challenge. As the award has played such a huge role in helping both our school and college students achieve things they never knew they could do, ELT decided to answer the call and raise money by taking a barge along the waterways of the North West.
he team of seven set off on Friday afternoon, when they were shown how to handle the boat, tie knots and operate the system of locks they would encounter. After that, they set off along the water, taking it in turns to steer or cycle along the tow path next to the barge. The group also spent some time canoeing on the water, taking plenty of photographs and sharing their fond memories of Rosie and Jim.
It was a bit tricky to get the hang of it at first but (with occasional help from more experienced boaters along the way), this motley crew got the hang of it and by Sunday were confidently steering their way along the water. Huge well done to the team, and congratulations on completing their diamond challenge!
At the time of writing this, they have already beaten their fundraising total of £420 for the DofE. Learn more and donate via JustGiving here!
