Family Information Events
Last Saturday we were pleased to host a Preparation for Adulthood – Supported Living event. Guests attended several workshops from parents and family members addressing their experiences of entering adult services and the decisions their families have made, with Mark Harris, of Freedom Care and Support Ltd, sharing his perspective as a provider in another workshop and Katherine Walker giving a talk which drew on her experience as a social worker with Stockport’s learning disability team. Providers offering a wide range of services including day centres, supported living housing options, leisure activities, personal assistants and information and support for families also joined us to exhibit their services.
The event was well-received, we have had very positive and constructive feedback and many people said that they particularly enjoyed the opportunity to network and share information with families as well as learn more about the services on offer.
The next family information event we have planned will address the Mental Capacity Act (2005), which applies to people aged 16 and over, and discuss real world examples of what rights people have to make decisions about their own lives. We will shortly be updating the events page with more information.
If you have not yet had the chance to give us your feedback about the Preparation for Adulthood event on the 28th February, you can find the evaluation form here.
Thank you again to everyone who attended: to our speakers, who gave their time to deliver workshops about their own experiences; to the service providers who demonstrated what they had to offer; to the families for attending, and to college student Robyn G., who completed a day’s work experience as the event photographer.
