The High Sheriff of Greater Manchester Gerry Yeung and his wife Joanne visited Seashell Trust earlier this month, touring the site and delighting children like Lucas who loved trying on the Sheriff's hat!

The tour gave our visitors the chance to learn more about our charity's history as Dominic Tinner, our head of Fundraising, was on hand to talk about how we were first established in 1823 as a school for Deaf children before becoming a charity for children and young adults with very complex learning and communication disabilities, which may include hearing or multi-sensory impairments. 

It was a great opportunity to discuss some of our plans for the future including the need for an early assessment centre to help diagnose children at the earliest possible stage to make sure they have access to the right support and early intervention. 

As a special thank you, Royal School Manchester pupils gave Gerry and Joanne Yeung a sculpture in the shape of a fish made in our art lessons, and Gerry invited the students to visit his restaurant, Yang Sing Cathay, to enjoy a day out and some traditional Chinese cooking. A real treat that our students will find really exciting!
