Dr David Sanders

David has a wide experience of education delivery both in primary and secondary schools and as a visiting lecturer at the University of Aberdeen and Northern College. He moved to Scotland to take up a post with Grampian Regional Council in 1984 initially in Aberdeen Divisional Education Office and subsequently as Area Manager for Kincardine and Deeside. Whilst based in Aberdeen, David also studied for an MEd degree and a PhD based on disaffected and excluded pupils. He joined Knowsley MBC in 1989 as Assistant Director of Education and during his time at Knowsley covered a number of directorates. He also qualified as an Ofsted inspector.

In 1997, David took up the post of Director of Education with the new Unitary Authority of Blackpool.  He progressed to the position of Strategic Director of Community Services with responsibility for Children’s Services; Leisure Culture and Adult Learning Services; and Adult Social Care and Housing. He has written several articles for the Times Educational Supplement – mainly on assessment, papers for Scottish Higher Education on disaffection and in collaboration with Professor Hendry published a book on ‘New Perspectives on Disaffection’.

He established a management consultancy in 2007 and through which he had a wide range of experiences including Director of Children's Services for Herefordshire, chair of six different safeguarding boards for both children and adults and located in London and the North West, project managed the transformation of post 16 education for a London borough and led 6 special education initiatives in northwest local authorities.
