Communication with British Sign Language

This is a beginner’s course which will introduce you to sign language. It will cover everyday topics in British Sign Language (BSL) and at the end of the course learners will be able to hold a basic conversation in BSL with Deaf people. Topic areas include meeting people, work school and/or college, wather, opinions and ideas, use of simple linking conventions and prepositions and signing structure

Day: Wednesday

Term Dates: 11th September weekly (excluding school holidays) until July 2020

Session Times: 

  • Session 1 : 1 - 3pm
  • Session 2: 3.30 - 5.30pm
  • Session 3 : 7 - 9 pm

Location: Seashell Trust, Stanley Road, Cheadle Hulme, SK8 6RQ 

Entry requirements

  • No formal qualifications needed

Course learning outcomes: 

When you have finished this course you should be able to:

  • Have a basic conversation in BSL with a Deaf person
  • Talk about your hobbies, family, work etc in BSL
  • Have some awareness of Deafness

Qualification Gained on Successful Completion 

  • BSL Level 1 (Signature Examining Board)
