'Communicating without Speech: An Introduction' Training Taster

Date:
19th March 2019

'Communicating without Speech: An Introduction' Training Taster
This session will run on Tuesday 19th of March at 5.30-6.30pm and again on Tuesday 26th of March at 3.30-4.30pm.
Cost: £10

We all use lots of different methods to communicate: gesture, emojis, writing, speech, body language, facial expression. Some people find using speech to communicate difficult. They may use photos, symbols, drawings or objects of reference to communicate. These systems are called Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and can be paper based or on an electronic device. This introductory workshop will explore how people can communicate without speech, what AAC is and who it might be helpful for.

This taster session is ideal for teaching assistants, teachers and healthcare professionals who are interested in learning more about this approach.  It will be led by a qualified Speech and Language Therapist, experienced in supporting individuals who use AAC.

Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis and are expected to be popular so booking early is advised.
