Speech and language support for children and young people with complex needs
Seashell Trust’s accredited Elklan training has been designed to help maximise the communication potential of children and young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities.
Our eight week course will cover in depth subjects including nonverbal communication, creating a communication friendly setting, the link between play and language as well as Total Communication.
It will equip you with innovative tools and methods to enhance learning and communication development, helping you to become more effective and confident in your role. You’ll learn strategies that you can put into practice from day one and each week will complete a portfolio task which requires you to apply learnings directly into your workplace.
You will leave this course with a bank of new knowledge and skills to draw on, as well as a completed portfolio of specific strategies to support students with complex needs. All those successfully completing the course will receive an Ascentis accreditation at level 2 or 3. Level 2 is equivalent to GCSE level of study whilst level 3 is equivalent to A or NVQ3 level of study.
Our Elkan training course is delivered by qualified Speech and Language Therapist and regional Elkan tutor, Emily Walsh. Teaching methods include practical hands on activities, videos and group discussions.
