Makaton Taster

Date:
28th July 2017

Free Makaton taster session for parents, carers and professionals

Seashell Trust is offering a free taster session for those interested in finding out more about the sign and symbol language system, Makaton. A bitesize practical session will take place on 28th July at Seashell Trust in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport.

Makaton has transformed the lives of children and adults with a range of different communication difficulties. It’s designed to support spoken language – signs are used with speech, in spoken word order to help children and adults to communicate.

Using Makaton removes the frustration of being unable to communicate effectively with others, connecting individuals with the people and world around them and unlocking a whole host of possibilities.

The taster session will be led by Seashell Trust’s Speech and Language Therapist, Kate Duggan, who appears in this short video for CBeebies introducing Makaton:

Whether you care for someone who has no speech, have a professional interest or work for an organisation that strives to be more inclusive of those with disabilities, our session will provide the perfect introduction.  You’ll find out how Makaton can support communication, learn and practice useful signs and symbols and discover how to access further training at Seashell Trust.  No prior knowledge is necessary.
