Parents' CSE Awareness Day

On 13 May, Project Phoenix is holding a child sexual exploitation awareness day targeted at parents throughout Greater Manchester. This is to help parents understand what child sexual exploitation is and to recognise the signs. A number of events including stalls, leaflets and media events will take place across Greater Manchester and address issues related to general internet safety and online grooming as well as child sexual exploitation.

ONLINE WEBCHAT

5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m., http://www.itsnotokay.co.uk/parents/parents-cse-awareness-day/ Parents will be able to speak anonymously with a mother whose daughter was groomed by an older 'friend'. Through an online question and answer session on the It's Not Okay website, the mother (joined by experts from PACE UK), the mother will discuss what happened, the signs that something was wrong and the support she received for them both to recover.

MANCHESTER

10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Arndale Centre Wintergardens: Parents will have the chance to play with smartphones and tablets to learn how to protect children on the internet and social networking sites. Help will also be available from Greater Manchester Police, The Children’s Society and Parents against Child Sexual Exploitation (PACE).

TAMESIDE

9:30 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. New Charter Bus Ashton Town Centre, Offering support and signposting concerned parents to appropriate agencies.

12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. New Charter Bus Denton Crown Point Shopping Centre, Offering support and signposting concerned parents to appropriate agencies.

5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Tameside College, Awareness event including presentation and Q&A sessions

8:00 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. Hyde, Awareness event including presentation and Q&A sessions

 

STOCKPORT

 

10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Stockport Town Hall, Information meeting for foster carers

5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., First House, Brinnington, Parents' Awareness Evening.

 

OLDHAM

 

9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Spindles Centre, Police, social workers and Barnardo's distribute information and show PACE & Barnardo's videos.

2:00 p.m. - 5 p.m., Chadderton Wellbeing Centre, Police, social workers and Barnardo's staff distribute information and show PACE & Barnardo's videos.

 

WIGAN

 

Morning, Wigan Galleries, Information stall staffed by CSE team, police and partners, including Parents' Voice worker from Brook.

Afternoon, Spinning Jenny Shopping Centre Leigh, Information stall staffed by CSE team, police and partners, including Parents' Voice worker from Brook.
