Promoting Independence

If you care for a child or young person with autism and severe learning difficulties, you are eligible for a comprehensive range of support from Seashell Trust.
This is the second of several sessions aimed at helping families deal with everyday issues like mealtimes, communication, behaviour and looking for ways to help your child become more independent.
In this session, Royal College Manchester tutor Joe Booker will discuss some of the ways we can help children and young people to become more independent outside of their school and college learning.
Greater independence usually means a more fulfilling life as people are better equipped to try new things and make choices about their day. For families, knowing that your son or daughter is able to cope with more things on their own terms can bring great peace of mind when it comes to planning for the future.
As one of our autism-qualified teachers, Joe finds the best ways to promote independence for his students around the college, during their work experience placements and in the community. In this session, he will look at some of the great opportunities for children and young people to become more independent around the home and how families can see them put some of the skills from school or college into action.
Join us for tea and coffee from 5.45pm with the presentation running 6:00pm - 7:00pm
