Over 60 riders braved freezing conditions to take part in the first Seashell Trust cycle challenge.

With a choice of three routes ranging from 15 to 60 miles, cyclists hit the roads to raise £5,000 for our students.

The full-length course took in the beautiful countryside of three counties - Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire before returning the Seashell Trust campus.

Wendy Bray, Seashell Trust fundraiser, said: “Despite the weather, it was still stunning and a real challenge even for good riders. Lots of people say they would love to do it again next year.”

Entry fees and sponsorship money will go towards specially adapted trikes for our students. Cycling is an excellent way to improve muscle tone, co-ordination and independence for young people who may struggle with other forms of mobility.

Wendy said: “Thank you so much to everyone who braved the crazy May weather to take part in our cycle challenge. It was a little scary at times. We were overwhelmed by how many people were prepared to take on the challenging courses and conditions to raise money for us. Thanks to all our riders and hardy volunteers.”
