Team Sellers takes on Color Run for CADS
Family and friends took part in the 'happiest 5k on earth' to celebrate the life of colourful character Craig Sellers who died suddenly earlier this year.
A group of around 30 people joined in the Color Run where runners are bombarded with brightly coloured powder around the 5km course at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.
They were raising money in memory of business owner Craig, from Greave, Woodley, who died in January aged 50.
Over £7,000 has already been raised through donations, football tournaments at the Stockport Sports Village plusValentine's and Easter events at Sainsbury’s in Romiley.
The father-of-four was a big supporter of grassroots sport in Stockport. His family hope to continue his legacy by enabling local children to access inclusive activities through CADS.
Seashell Trust's Children's Able and Disabled Sport (CADS) programme holds evening and holiday sports clubs for all children and young people in Stockport, no matter what their abilities or disability.
One-to-one care is available so everyone can join in every activity but this support is expensive.
Gemma Lynch, Seashell Trust's CADS co-ordinator, said: “In the past, one-to-one support was provided by a respite care agency, but the funding has been cut. At Easter we had to turn away 30 children. We urgently need funding to ensure our CADS activities are fully inclusive.”
To participate, many of the children need a minimum of one-to-one, and some two-to-one support - as they do throughout their daily lives. This could be helping to change into their sports gear or manage an overload of sensory stimuli.
Gemma added: “It was a different story at the latest CADS holiday club. Around 50 young people took part in swimming, seated volleyball, arts and crafts, tennis, fitness, team building, football and hockey. Two thirds had a disability or additional needs, 16 required a one-to-one support worker to take part.
“These 16 young people were able to attend the event though having one-to-one support funded by Craig’s fund. Without this, these young people could not attend the event, so thank you very much for your support and generosity.”
