Interest in volleyball is set to spike after a new sports club was launched at Seashell Trust.

Stockport Volleyball Club, brainchild of Adrian Stores, served up its inaugural session at the charity's sports hall in Cheadle Hulme.

Adrian, who runs marketing business Acrobat in Cheadle and is a lecturer at the University College of Football Business, said: “It seemed unacceptable Stockport didn't have a local club for the wonderful sport of volleyball, when the neighbouring authorities in Greater Manchester all had representation.

“Come and try out, for fun or fame, the joy is in both participation and winning with Stockport Volleyball – The S’PORT.”

The club plans to run two programs: a mixed adults session and a CADS (Children's Able and Disabled Sports) sitting volleyball integrated club for young people of all abilities, with additional support if required.

Gemma Lynch, Seashell Trust's senior CADS development officer, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for our students and the young people that attend the CADS programme to try a new sport, which is able to be adapted and inclusive for all. We look forward to working with Stockport Volleyball, to include volleyball in our current programme of activities.”

It has been funded by a grant from Sportivate – a London 2012 legacy project that gives more young people the chance to discover a sport that they love.

Adrian added: “We would also like to thank the Volleyball England, Greater Sport and Life Leisure for their assistance and advice.”

The adult club for 16+ is at 7pm-8pm on alternate Tuesdays, with the next one on November 17. CADS sitting volleyball is to be arranged. More details at: www.stockportvolleyball.com
