Long-time Seashell Trust supporter Morson Group raised £160,000 to be shared between their chosen 2016 charities as voted for by employees.

A cheque for an £80,000 share was officially presented to Seashell Trust representative Wendy Bray at Morson head office in a luncheon event attended by the Morson charity committee and Group CEO Ged Mason.

It follows a year of extensive fundraising from Morson Group staff across the country.

The biggest event of the year, the Morson masquerade ball, took place in September at Lancashire County Cricket Ground and saw over £100,000 raised in a celebratory evening that included charity auctions and raffles. Other events throughout the year included dress down days, golf days and sky dives.

David Robinson, chairman of the charity committee, said “With it being the tenth anniversary of the committee, we are so delighted to have been able to raise such a magnificent amount.

“We would like to thank everyone within the Morson Group who have gone out of their way to help us raise this figure. I would like to give a special thank you to the rest of the charity committee for all their hard work and commitment throughout the year. None of these events would have happened without their enthusiasm and dedication.”

Dominic Tinner, head of Seashell fundraising, said “What the staff at Morson have achieved is quite remarkable. This wonderful donation will fund a brand new classroom at Seashell’s Royal School Manchester, which has recently been judged by Ofsted to be Outstanding for the third consecutive occasion.

“The new facility will benefit many generations of children and young people with the most complex needs who attend the school from all over England and Wales. As well as holding a number of fundraising events staff volunteered their time on the campus and their specialist services for Seashell.”

Angela Thompson, from the Morson charity committee, said: “We worked so hard and reached a fabulous total for 2016. The look on the face of the Seashell Trust representative was totally amazing. That’s why we do it – because we know we’re making a difference to someone.”
