Stockport based charity Seashell Trust, who educate, care for and inspire some of the UK’s most profoundly disabled children and young people, received a special visit today (26.07.19) from Paralympian Neil Fachie. 

Neil, who is an ambassador of Seashell Trust, attended the school’ sport assembly which celebrated the inclusivity of the Trust and its activities. The grounds, which boast a new 3G Sports Pitch and on site gym, are completely inclusive to all abilities and disabilities meaning that the students can enjoy a range of sporting activities and don’t miss out on any sporting opportunity.

The Paralympian who is partially sighted, made his debut at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics as a track and field athlete before a successful switch to cycling. Since then he has won three Paralympic medals, 18 World Championships medals and four Commonwealth Games medals.

After the assembly the students were given the chance to meet with him. Neil said: “The work of the charity is amazing, being around so many happy children and adults is very warming. My wife Lora and I are proud to be ambassadors for the charity and we will continue to support them.”

He added: “The inclusive facilities here are great, especially the sporting ones. I’m really happy to support Seashell and to visit and meet the students, each one has an incredible story.”

Rachel McCrystal, from Seashell Trust, said: “We’re thrilled to have Neil attend our assembly, he is really a true inspiration and we know that the students are pleased about his visit. He’s an incredible athlete and has had such huge achievements which we know have inspired many students and staff here.

The visit comes the school and college closes for summer holidays and comes seven weeks before the charities Sportive cycling fundraiser which gives local cyclists a chance to have fun and raise money for vital funds.
