Three swimmers took the plunge for Seashell Trust at the Great North Swim.

The open water race in icy Lake Windermere attracted 10,000 participants this year.

Craig McNeil, despite being born with talipes - a condition formerly known as clubfeet, came 13th out of 4,000 in the one-mile race with a time of 21.42 mins

He raised £200. Craig's mother Wendy supports the trust's community swimming lessons.

Vicki Wiles, from global investment company and long-time Seashell supporter BNY Mellon in Manchester, took on the two-mile challenge for Seashell Trust.

She said: “I literally signed up to it the day before Davina McCall did her epic swim so I was a bit nervous. I really enjoyed it – I was surprised as I had found the training hard in Salford Quays. I have raised £340 and BNY Mellon will match this with another £300.

“I would definitely do it again and it looks like I may have inspired my dad and partner to try it too.”

Seashell Trust's fundraiser Wendy Bray, who had only done one open water swim before the event, said: “The swim was one of the scarier challenges I've done. But I actually loved it and felt so proud to be representing Seashell Trust. Thanks to everyone who supported me.”
