Support for Families
The Family Services Team has a broad understanding of the needs of families with children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). The team informs and signposts parents and carers of children and young people with SEND aged 0-25 developing knowledge and understanding and empowering parents and carers to have a voice.
I'm a parent, where can I get support?
Support with education and care for parents of children and young people at Seashell Trust.
Our Family Link Worker can often provide support before and during Annual Reviews or external meetings.
The team also:
• Provides a link between Seashell Trust, parents and carers.
• Signposts parents to internal and external services.
• Helps parents and carers to develop their understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
• Organises a programme of informal, friendly events to bring Seashell Trust families together.
• Provides training to Seashell Trust staff to support their work with families.
Both Royal School Manchester and Royal College Manchester have parent governors sitting on their board who parents can contact through the school or college office.
For information on other organisations providing support around Special Educational Needs and Disabilities please see our Links to Other Organisations.
Parent to Parent
Seashell Family Services Team bring families together to offer each other support. Parents meet at our annual family days and have various opportunities to share experiences and knowledge through our social media and workshops.
Stay & Play
The Family Services Team also runs the Stay and Play sessions for pre-school children with very complex special needs, giving parents the chance to meet others and support their child’s development. Further details can be found here.
How can I help shape services for families?
Membership of PIPS (Parents in Partnership Stockport) Parent Carer Forum is open to all parents with a child at Seashell Trust. Parent Carer Forums are a group of parents and carers of disabled children who work with local authorities, education settings, health providers and others to make sure the services they plan and deliver meet the needs of disabled children and families. You can join PIPS and receive information, and then decide if you want to get more involved. You can find a list of parent carer forums around the UK here.
Stockport SAYS offers a place for young people, with ANY additional needs or disabilities, to have their voice heard in a safe, friendly place and to shape services for future generations
Both Royal School Manchester and Royal College Manchester have parent governors sitting on their board who welcome ideas for improving Seashell Trust services. They can be contacted through the school or college office.
