Students sign up for equality in education campaign
Seashell Trust students signed up to a national campaign calling for equality in education for young people with disability.
Three students took part in a sign song event at Trafford Centre in support of the The Association of National Specialist Colleges (Natspec) Right Not A Fight campaign.
Mariyam Vohra, 20, Julia Smith, 19, Luke Morrow, 19, performed songs by Bruno Mars, Olly Murs and from the musical Joseph using signing rather than singing along with students from several other colleges from the North West.
Tricia Ramjutun, Seashell Trust's learner voice co-ordinator, said: “Our students weren't really nervous about taking part but maybe a little shy initially. They thoroughly enjoyed the interaction with other students and demonstrating their signing skills for an issue that is of paramount importance to them.”
Right Not A Fight was launched in response to the new Children and Families Act. Campaigners say 'they want to stop inequality in education for students with special needs'.
Although, the new law allows young people with disabilities and their families greater choice in their education, there are concerns over a lack of information, the slow pace of decision-making and extensive funding delays.
