A group of 17 apprentices from BT Openreach visited Seashell Trust to help get its gardens ready for spring.

The volunteers visited as part of BT Openreach’s Apprentice Week.

Their mascot Ollie was on hand to meet the students.

Stuart Williams-White, from BT Openreach, said: “This is something very close to my heart as I have a severely autistic niece. I know how important it is to have the sensory gardens for the development and relaxation of the children. We were here two years ago clearing the woodland for the new development so it was great to see the progress.

“The gratitude from all the carers and teachers throughout the day was overwhelming and it made it even more special now they can all enjoy the spruced-up gardens. A few apprentices have their thinking caps on about how to help even more. The next plan is a sponsored sky dive.”

Wendy Bray, from Seashell Trust, said: “We very grateful to all the apprentices. As well as gardening, they also re-painted all our fences and garden furniture after they have been battered by the long winter. They donated £500 which we spent on a new bench and some colourful plants.”
