Seashell Trust's Chief Executive and Principal Mark Geraghty has announced he is to retire.

Mark, who has been head of the Trust for almost nine years, is to leave at the end of the current academic year.  The Board of Trustees have appointed Jolanta McCall as Mark's replacement.  She will join as Chief Executive from a distinguished career in children's special educational needs services and paediatric audiology.

Mark said of the news: "It has been a true privilege to lead the talented and committed team at Seashell Trust and over the years I have seen our children and young people make extraordinary progress which makes me incredibly proud.

"Our work is vitally important; not only does it change the lives of our students, it has an impact on entire families and here at Seashell we are leading the way in showing just what can be achieved with determination and the very best special needs education and care.

"It is now time for me to hand the baton to a new Chief Executive to lead the Trust into the future and I know Jolanta will do an amazing job.  These are exciting times for the Trust and for the provision of special educational needs across the UK as a whole".

Chair of the Board of Directors Gwen Carr said of Mark's retirement: "Mark has made a huge contribution to the success of Seashell Trust and our children and young people and he leaves a strong legacy for the future.  We would all like to thank him for his tireless work and wish him every success in the future.

"We are pleased to have appointed Jolanta McCall as our new Chief Executive.  Jolanta brings a wealth of experience and energy and she will be an excellent addition to the Seashell team".

Mark will retire from his post at the end of the academic year but plans to continue his work in special educational needs acting as a specialist advisor and consultant for local authorities and the Government.

Seashell Trust have promised they will continue to provide the highest quality education and care to children and young people from across the North West and maintain outstanding delivery which is something Jolanta McCall and the Board of Trustees are determined to continue.

The Trust will soon see a new 3G pitch installed as part of a range of improvements to the campus and on site living facilities for the students.

Seashell Trust will also be hosting a series of events of events in the coming weeks inluding the 'Listen to Me' conference, on 10th May, a multi-sensory impairment conference outlining practical strategies for supporting children and young people with sensory impairment.
