The summer fair raised £6,700 while celebrating the trust's 60 years in Cheadle Hulme.

Wendy Bray, Seashell Trust fundraiser, said: “We had hundreds of visitors, including lots of our students and their families, as well as members of the local community, our volunteers and supporters.”

Entertainment included LL Extreme Cheerleaders and the Alderley Scout Band. Caremark, a local home care provider, ran a sweet stall and lucky dip.

Three Scouts were prepared to travel all the way from Bury to make sure the fair was success.

Haydn Grant,11, Dylan Weaver, 11, and Robert Barlow, 13, from the 10th Radcliffe Scouts manned the car park and ran a beat the goalie stall.

Mark Ascroft, the boys's Scout leader and finance director of Seashell Trust, said: “We had a baking session at Scouts where they made a load of scones for sale at the fair.

“I asked if some could help run some of the stalls and car parking and they jumped at the chance.

Former students of Seashell Trust, formerly known as the Royal Schools for the Deaf, enjoyed a reunion dinner organised Christine Pritchard, Carol Comer and Alan Leslie Hale at the Hallmark Hotel after the fair.

Christine said: “The reunion went without a hitch and it was absolutely fantastic. Everyone really enjoyed themselves. Some guests hadn't seen their old friends for over 30 years.

“Stephen Goodwin was oldest former pupil at 62 at the reunion. His best friend at school was Richard Boddy and they are still best friends today. He left the Royal Schools for the Deaf Cheadle Hulme in 1969. Stephen loved the swimming pool and he did an apprenticeship as a chef while there.”
