Trusts and Foundations
The support of trusts and foundations has been vital to the Seashell Trust in maintaining and enhancing our provision to some of the most severely challenged young people in the country. They have funded significant projects, capital developments and specialist equipment enabling us to provide the very best education, care and facilities, and so helping our students to achieve their full potential.
Examples include:
- A livery company who granted £10,000 towards a new Play Area for the school
- A regional trust who granted £1,000 towards outdoor musical instruments for our sensory garden
- A major national foundation who granted £100,000 towards our college extension
- An international foundation who granted £35,000 towards our new sports centre
- A local trust who granted £50,000 over three years for a Youth Worker
As a residential facility operating a 24-hour extended curriculum, we often have discrete projects that meet the criteria of trusts with defined interests in, for example, art, music, horticulture etc. And while we are based in the North-West, as one of the very few facilities with the expertise to support individuals with profound and multiple learning disabilities, we welcome children and young people from across the UK.
Currently, the Seashell Trust is undertaking its most ambitious plan of improvement since the original site was built in 1954: the Transforming Lives programme (click to see brochure) While we have designated a significant amount from our reserves, we need to secure substantial additional funding to bring our plans to fruition.

The Seashell Trust recognises the due diligence processes that Trusts and Foundations expect to complete before deciding to commit funding to any organisation. We are regulated by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission and can point, in the first instance, to their ‘Outstanding’ judgements for both our education and care provision. As you would expect, our accounts and other documents are filed promptly with Companies House and the Charity Commission.
We have a track record of delivering successful projects and, should you choose to support the Seashell Trust, we will adhere to your frameworks for reporting and recognition. This might include:
- Photographs and written updates
- Final evaluations
- Site visits and meetings with project staff and students
- Acknowledgements in our Annual Report, newsletters and the press
- Naming rights where appropriate
Equally, we recognise that many Trusts and Foundations prefer anonymity and of course respect that entirely!
