'Team Hotel' tackle the English Channel in bid to raise funds for Seashell Trust

Four brave individuals are gearing up to swim the English Channel on 16 August 2020, all to raise vital funds for Seashell Trust.

Gemma Hodgson, James Lord and Andrew Mossford, from Together Money, and Daniel Owen-Parr, from VAS Group, will take on the Channel as part of a four man relay. The four will be following the original Captain Webb rules during the swim, including no wetsuits or flotation aids, and aim to complete the relay in around 15 hours.

Sanders takes over as Seashell Chair

Seashell has appointed Dr David Sanders as Chair of the Board of Directors after Robina Shah stepped down this week.

Robina, who had been Chair since 2019, handed over the post to Dr David Sanders at a meeting of the board.

David, a management consultant with a prestigious career in education, had previously chaired the Seashell Safeguarding Board, and has served Seashell for more than 13 years.  He takes over the post as chair with immediate effect.

Seashell signs deal with Bloor Homes

Seashell signs deal with Bloor Homes for New Homes in Cheadle Hulme

Seashell has today announced that it has agreed the sale of land to housebuilders Bloor Homes who are to build new homes in Cheadle Hulme.

The Trust, which last month secured planning permission for a new school, campus and 325 new homes following an appeal to the Secretary of State, has agreed a deal which will see Bloor Homes buy a piece of land owned by the Trust and develop the houses on the site.

Seashell given green light for new school and campus

22nd April 2020

We are absolutely delighted with today’s decision published by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government which sees the Planning Inspectorate allowing our appeal and granting planning permission for Seashell’s new school and campus.

All of our team at Seashell are currently working incredibly hard to manage the needs of our children and young people in the challenging circumstances created by the global pandemic and that will remain our focus for as long as is needed, but this decision paves the way for a new, positive direction for Seashell.

No decision as yet on planning appeal

19th February 2020

We are very disappointed not to have received a decision on our planning appeal which was due to be decided by 13 February 2020.

This delay means that our children and young people will have to wait even longer for the school and campus redevelopment that is so desperately needed and we have written to the Government to ask that the decision be made as soon as possible.

Autism Accreditation Advanced Status

We’re delighted to announce that Seashell's Royal School Manchester and Children’s Residential Services have been awarded Advanced Status through the National Autistic Society’s Autism Accreditation programme.

Autism Accreditation recognised in particular that Seashell offers high quality, personalised programmes of educational and therapeutic support, with autism specific practices firmly embedded, whilst also noting that our individual curriculum approach ensures that teaching and learning takes into account our children and young people’s interests and development needs.

Make Events Adds a Touch of Strictly Sparkle to Seashell Trust

Seashell Trust has announced Make Events as the official events partner on the return of Strictly Seashell, the charity's annual fundraising ball.  The event will take place on Saturday 16 May at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate.

Seashell Trust is a charity that transforms the lives of profoundly disabled children and young people, from across the UK, with complex combinations of physical difficulties, learning and communications difficulties, visual and hearing impairments and autism, by providing residential education and care.

Seashell Heralds Future In Welcoming New Chair

07th November 2019

Seashell's Chair of the Board of Directors, Gwen Carr, is to retire after completing her full term of 12 years within the Trust and will be replaced by Dr Robina Shah MBE.

Gwen, who has been Chair since 2014, this week stepped down from her post and handed the reins to Dr Shah, a chartered consultant psychologist and senior lecturer at Manchester Medical School, University of Manchester.

Nic Gower, Director, Chair of the Audit Committee and Royal School Manchester Governor is also retiring from The Trust having served on the board for his full term of 12 years.

‘We thought that my daughter would never move, see or communicate, but today she can make jewellery using her hands and face to thread beads’

Evie Gilbert, now 18, was born with a rare condition called CHARGE syndrome and diagnosed as deaf and blind. Her parents were told by health professionals that Evie was unlikely to walk or communicate and would have a very passive life.
