Seashell Trust pupils buzzing over their Bee in the City!

A giant bee created by our students with complex needs will be unveiled this week, as part of one of the largest mass participation arts events ever held in the North West. 

After months of hard work, Seashell Trust’s ‘Shellbee’ will go proudly on display INSIDE Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre, forming part of the ‘Bee in the City’ trail. The bee has been designed to encourage children and young people with sensory impairment to engage with an art work which lights up when approached, and buzzes and vibrates when touched.

Seashell Trust linked up with social media whizz BizWiz UK

Seashell Trust is dedicated to helping its profoundly disabled students communicate with the world.

But when we also wanted to get our staff communicating in different ways we linked up with Manchester business development company BizWiz UK.

As part of BizWizUK’s partnership supporting Seashell, its director Ann Davies delivered valuable training for the social media site LinkedIn to the trust’s multi-disciplinary team.

Work begins on Seashell Trust's fully accessible football facility

Work has now begun on Seashell Trust’s fully accessible football facility, which will open the game up to disabled and able-bodied players.  Facilities will include a full-size, all weather third generation (3G) artificial grass pitch, which can be split into two 9v9 and four 5v5 pitches, two changing rooms and ancillary facilities.

Seashell Trust Conference Brings Together MSI Experts

More than 120 delegates from across the UK attended Seashell Trust’s 'Listen To Me' multi-sensory impairment (MSI) conference, at Manchester Conference Centre last week. The event brought together nationally and internally renowned experts to deliver practical strategies for supporting the increasing numbers of children and young people with MSI. There are approximately 4000 children and young people aged 0‐19 years with MSI in the UK (Emerson & Robertson 2010), a figure expected to rise to 5000 by 2030.

Seashell Trust student aims to raise £10,000

A young man from Bramhall with complex autism is aiming to raise £10,000 for local charity Seashell Trust where he is a pupil of Royal School Manchester.

James Farley (18), who has been at the charitable special school in Cheadle Hulme since 2016 and a full-time resident since 2017, is running in this year’s Manchester 10k supported by friends and family.

CEO, Mark Geraghty, announces retirement

Seashell Trust's Chief Executive and Principal Mark Geraghty has announced he is to retire.

Mark, who has been head of the Trust for almost nine years, is to leave at the end of the current academic year.  The Board of Trustees have appointed Jolanta McCall as Mark's replacement.  She will join as Chief Executive from a distinguished career in children's special educational needs services and paediatric audiology.

Cheers to Macc Beer festival-goers for new play area!

Pounds pulled in by pulling pints are now providing a fantastic play area for our students.

The 2017 Macc Beer Festival, held at Macclesfield Rugby Club and supported by Macclesfield Round Table and CAMRA, served 16,000 pints to more than 4,000 visitors over two days.

It raised £17,000 for Seashell Trust. The money will be used to build a gazebo and safe trampolining area in the middle of our new houses for residential students and profoundly disabled children on short breaks away from their families

Seashell Trust to Appeal Planning Decision on School and Campus

Seashell Trust has announced it is to appeal the decision of the Stockport Council planning committee which earlier this year refused permission for a school and campus transformation on the site at Cheadle Hulme.

A meeting of the Board of Trustees of Seashell Trust which provides education and support for children and young adults with extremely complex disabilities, this week voted to appeal against the decision which they believe is ‘fundamentally flawed and grossly unfair’.

Seashell Trust is hoping to bag carwash cash from Tesco shoppers

Seashell Trust students are hoping to bag shoppers' support for our community car wash

Seashell Trust is part of this month's Bags of Help scheme at six local Tesco stores including the Handforth Dean store.

Shoppers can back a specific charity with a blue token received at the checkout. The project that receives the most tokens will receive a grant of up to £4,000. The money comes from the sale of plastic bags.

Seashell Trust is planning to use the money raised for a community work skills project.

Our Strictly Come Dancing-style evening is bound to bring out the competitve streak in the business and high society worlds of Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

Eight business leaders are deep in training in advance of the dance-off in front of Strictly favourite Robin Windsor to decide who will lift the coveted Seashell Trust glitter ball on Saturday, April 28.
