Marathon man Dan smashes fundraising target

Seashell Trust's very own marathon man Daniel Snee has raised over £4,000, smashing his target of £2,500.

Dan, who has severe development delay, severe autism, sensory processing dysfunction, epilepsy and no speech, completed his epic feat by running four and a half laps, just over a mile, at Woodbank Athletics Track in Stockport.

He ran just over 26 miles in total over a number of weeks with his learning support team, at Woodbank Athletics track in Stockport.

Ged Mason receives OBE from Prince William

Longterm Seashell supporter honoured with OBE

We are thrilled to congratulate long-term Seashell Trust supporter Ged Mason on his well-deserved OBE.

The Morson Group chief executive accepted the honour for his services to engineering and design at a Buckingham Palace ceremony the day after the Queen’s 90th birthday.

The Salford-based Morson Group has provided global services in engineering recruitment since 1969.

For the last seven years, the company has supported Seashell Trust through fundraising, volunteer work and offering our students work experience and employment.

Discovery Foundation grant to help students sit comfortably

Seashell Trust has received nearly £4,000 to buy four high-tech 'huggy' chairs for its students with profound disabilities.

The donation was provided by The Discovery Foundation, supported by Santander UK, which offers grants to charities for projects that help disadvantaged people in local communities.

The Protac SenSit 'huggy' chairs use the theories of sensory integration. Pressure at trigger points from the chair's flexible plastic balls stimulates tactile, muscle and joint sensation.

Trust awarded Investor in Volunteers status again

Seashell Trust is proud to have been reaccredited as an Investor In Volunteers.

We were first awarded Investor in Volunteering status in 2011.

It promotes a high professional management standard for those working with volunteers. Achieving it demonstrates a commitment to good practice and confirms volunteers' experience is a good.

Students make a present fit for the Queen

Seashell Trust students have made the Queen a magnificent piece of art to celebrate her 90th birthday on Thursday, April 21.

We will be sending the present to Buckingham Palace as thanks for her longstanding support as Royal Patron since 1952.

Mark Geraghty, chief executive of Seashell Trust, said: "We are proud of our long relationship with Queen and were thrilled when she visited in 2004. The students and staff were very keen to mark her milestone birthday with a unique handmade gift.”

The charity has enjoyed royal patronage since 1897.

Seashell plans for a bright future as national centre of excellence

Seashell Trust is building a future as a national centre of excellence for the care and education of profoundly disabled children and young people.

The £45m project will transform our campus and includes a state-of the-art school with sensory and therapy facilities, services to support families of children with profound disabilities and top quality inclusive sports and recreational facilities for use by our students and the surrounding community.

Friendly Easter bunny hops in to deliver eggs

Seashell Trust students had a cracking time over Easter, helped by some of our favourite corporate supporters.

ADP, Carillion Morgan Sindall, Bentley, David Lloyd, and Laltex all donated chocolate eggs. M&S Handforth Dean sent delicious hot cross buns for everyone.

The Easter bunny visited school with Shepherds Friendly Society. The bunny met all the children and handed out eggs.

Fundraiser Wendy Bray said: “We held a big egg hunt for all our residential students on Easter Monday. They really enjoyed all the chocolate.”

NORFOX charity delivers £6,000 hi-tech trike to Seashell students

31st March 2016

NORFOX, the Greater Manchester commercial property sector charity which funds children's good causes, has bought a specially adapted tricycle for Seashell Trust students.

Its Christmas lunch and the Sportsman’s Curry Club lunches, run by Charlie Womersley, raised £6,000.

The tricycle will allow all our young people to enjoy independence of movement.

Pledge to help our students learn to love books

11th March 2016

Seashell Trust has launched its community book pledge after celebrating World Book Day.

Usborne Children's Books promises to donate a further £600 of books if we can raise £1,000 from the local community and businesses.

Helen Barrance, Seashell Trust early years teacher, said: “Every student deserves to be able to access books that are relevant, accessible and interesting and to develop a lifelong love of reading and books. The book pledge will allow us to make sure our school library meets the needs of all our students.”

Jake's mother's day portrait wins Merseyway first prize

11th March 2016

Royal School Manchester student Jake Redfern has won the Merseyway Mother's Day portrait competition.

Jake  eight, created a picture of his mum using a range of textures he chose to add to the portrait drawn with support from his learning support assistant.

Artwork by schoolchildren from across the borough was displayed around the shopping precinct and people were asked to vote via 'likes' on Merseyway's Facebook page.

A panel of judges chose a winner in three age groups from a shortlist of nine portraits.

Sir Alex Ferguson's golf day raises £30,000

Sir Alex Ferguson and friends swung into action and donated £30,000 to Seashell Trust.

The former Manchester United manager held his 14th annual golf day at he Mere Golf Resort and Spa near Knutsford in Cheshire.

Celebrities, including Willie Thorne, Philip Middlemiss and Ashley Taylor Dawson teed off alongside amateur golfers to raise money for the our National Centre of Excellence.

HURST accountants choose Seashell as its charity of year

29th February 2016

Staff at accountants and business advisers HURST have chosen Seashell Trust as the firm’s charity of the year.

HURST will dedicate its efforts towards raising thousands of pounds for new specialist gym equipment.

Fundraising activities planned by the firm include undertaking a sponsored Three Peaks Challenge in fancy dress and entering a team in the 10km Great Manchester Run. Other events will include a quiz night, a bake-off competition and the firm’s annual corporate football tournament.
