Help us be more active: collect Sainbury's vouchers

Seashell Trust is making an appeal for Sainsbury's Active Kids vouchers.

Our Royal School Manchester students love sport but are in desperate need for new equipment.

Supermarket giant Sainsbury's is giving away vouchers which shoppers can donate to the school or youth organisation of their choice.

For every £10 spent in a superstore or £5 in a Sainsbury's Local one voucher will be issued

The vouchers will be exchanged for sports gear from our wishlist.

Shepherds proves to be great friend

Seashell Trust has good friends in the community.

Shepherds Friendly Society has donated over £2,000 for our students.

The Cheadle mutual society gave £1,100, for equipment in the new playground, which is the final part of the £10million housing development at our Cheadle Hulme campus.

Stockport businessman Fred Finley handed over more than £3,000 to Seashell Trust  after his Captain's charity day at Didsbury Golf club.

Some 24 teams took to part in the fourball better ball competition, to support the children and young people with complex disabilities who live and study with us.

Dominic Tinner, from Seashell Trust, said: “Seashell Trust would like to thank Fred for all the fundraising he undertook during his year as Captain and to all the golfers who supported his magnificent efforts.”

ADP's angel tree makes our Christmas wishes come true

All the Seashell Trust students' Christmas dreams are coming true – thanks to a Cheadle company.

Business outsourcers Automatic Data Processing Ltd asked us what presents our students would most like to receive this year.

All our young people have significant learning difficulties compounded by a variety of additional disabilities including deafness, blindness, deafblindness, autism, physical disability and a number of rare syndromes.

Santa gives up sleigh for a Bentley to visit our Christmas party

Santa Claus arrived in style at Seashell Trust's Christmas party.

He made an early pitstop with his elves, from Bentley Manchester, to drop off some presents for our students.

And while his sleigh was being readied for the big night, the big man and his team travelled in classic cars.

Will Woodhead, marketing manager for Bentley Manchester based in Knutsford, said: “We filled the boots of our Bentley Mulsanne and Rolls-Royce Ghost with huge sacks of presents. A couple of drivers chauffeured the children in the cars – it is a special experience we hope they loved

Curry-loving sports fans raise £6,000 for specialist bike

21st December 2015

Our students will be getting a £6,000 bike for Christmas – thanks to curry-loving sports fans.

The Sportsman’s Curry Club, through its partnership with the property and construction sector charity charity NORFOX, has raised the £6,000 for Seashell Trust.

The social lunch club hosts city centre fundraising events, with cricketer Matthew Hoggard MBE as its most recent guest speaker.

The money raised by the SCC and Norfox will purchase a specialist Draisin Plus bicycle for our students.

Christmas comes early with new bikes from Brian Kennedy Trust

18th December 2015

A Cheshire children's charity has helped get our students on their bikes for Christmas.

The Brian Kennedy Trust donated £6,000 to purchase two trikes and two go-karts to School and College.

Khalifa Souayed, 16, is a student at our School. He has severe learning difficulties and a degenerative condition in his ankles making walking painful.

His teacher Rachel Dwyer, said: “Khalifa loves to interact with others but gets incredibly anxious. Although he shares a classroom with another student twice a week, he still spends a lot of time learning by himself.

Law Print's £10,000 gift will help us pack students' lives full of fun

We got a great early Christmas present for all wrapped up from a Stockport packaging firm.

Morven Law and Carole Bayne from Law Print and Packaging, based in Hazel Grove, visited our Christmas fair to hand over a cheque for £10,000.

Seashell Trust runs the Royal School and College Manchester, providing a secure and happy environment for profoundly disabled children and young people live and learn.

The level of support our students require is very expensive and we rely heavily on donations to help give them a wonderful and interesting life.

Dan's DofE run plan set to net £2,500 for classmates

15th December 2015

One of our Royal School Manchester students is running to raise £2,500 to take his classmates on school trips.

Daniel Snee, aged 16, from Fixby, Huddersfield, is deafblind and also has severe development delay, severe autism, sensory processing dysfunction, epilepsy and no speech.

As part of his silver Duke of Edinburgh award, Dan is combining the sport and charity sections in a sponsored run. The fund will provide for trips and experiences his class friends might not be able to access otherwise.

APEM's sportive team raises £1,100 in 60-mile slog

An environmental consultancy raised £1,100 for Seashel Trust students.

The team of six from Manchester-based APEM, which specialises in freshwater and marine ecology, rode in this year's cycle sportive.

They took on the challenging 60-mile route with 7,500 ft of climbing through the Cheshire and Derbyshire countryside.

Richard Bassett, from APEM said: “Seashell Trust is APEM’s adopted charity. We help out in a few different ways, including recently offering work experience. A number of our staff are keen cyclists, including managing director Keith Hendry.

Splashing time at inclusive swim and music family fun days

12th November 2015

Seashell Trust has combined music and swimming in a series of fully inclusive events for children with special needs and their families.

Families got the chance to meet others who have the same struggles with participation in sports and activity clubs. Parents could share experiences and support each other while their disabled children and their siblings made new friends.

We are the proud home to a gamelan, an Indonesian percussion orchestra. The vibrations of the gamelan are an excellent way for those with impaired vision and hearing to take part in music.

Stockport Volleyball Club nets new home at Seashell

11th November 2015

Interest in volleyball is set to spike after a new sports club was launched at Seashell Trust.

Stockport Volleyball Club, brainchild of Adrian Stores, served up its inaugural session at the charity's sports hall in Cheadle Hulme.

Adrian, who runs marketing business Acrobat in Cheadle and is a lecturer at the University College of Football Business, said: “It seemed unacceptable Stockport didn't have a local club for the wonderful sport of volleyball, when the neighbouring authorities in Greater Manchester all had representation.
