A CEO of a top engineering recruitment firm has called on businesses to employ more staff with disabilities.

Ged Mason, of Morson Group based in Trafford Park, is a long-term fundraiser for Seashell Trust.

He said: “But it was only after I attended the trust's Valuing Employment showcase I realised we could be so much more and we are now delighted to be playing our part.”

The Minister of State for Disabled People Mark Harper visited Seashell Trust to see some of its 'outstanding' work.

Recently rated outstanding again across all areas of the school, college and residential provision, Seashell Trust provides a creative, happy and secure environment for children and adults with complex and severe learning disabilities, which include little or no language abilities.

Generous bakers rolled up their sleeves and raised some dough for Seashell Trust.

Caremark, a local home care provider in Handforth, held a cake sale as part of a recruitment day.

They made £100 selling baked treats at The Paddock, Handforth.

A cyclist is planning to ride across Canada to raise £1,000 for Seashell Trust – and has promised to do a day in the saddle naked if he hits his target before the end of the adventure.

Jamie Rose, from Davenport, Stockport, along with schoolfriend Lewis Brindley from Offerton, is planning to cycle over 4,000 miles along the Trans-Canada Highway which runs through southern Canada in aid of Seashell Trust.

A Burns Night supper at Emmanuel Church Hall in Didsbury raised £2,000.

Co-organiser Fiona Armstrong Hall, of Pine Road, Didsbury, said: “Several guests were in kilts, all were wearing some tartan. Gerry Montgomery addressed the haggis - without notes! It was fabulous. We also had brilliant speeches from Dave Bott - toast to the lassies, Jill Rennison gave reply from the lassies and the toast to the immortal memory came from Dr Sue Hyde.”
